Water Supply Planning and Management

Examples of past projects include:

Papakura Water Demand Growth Model - Developed a demand forecasting model using an innovative approach based on projected urban growth patterns, independent of the more usual consumptive use projections.

Auckland City Water Conservation Plan - Investigated potential benefits of adopting a conservation plan approach to planning and providing water supply services. Options included pricing models, stormwater harvesting, demand substitution and recycle.

Palmerston North City Water Supply - Water supply engineer at Palmerston North City, responsible for day to day operations and engineering as well as tariff design for water-by-meter customers, demand forecasting and forward planning of resources and funding requirements.

Tauranga Water Conservation Plan - Using demand growth forecasting, developed a plan for a conservation-minded approach to water supply planning to optimise cost of service provision against forecasted growth in population and rising expectations of consumers. Plan included pro-active use of pricing signals together with effects of education and regulation.

Sihanoukville Future Water Source Development - Investigated options for water supply to underpin the development of a new city and industrial centre in Cambodia. Field investigation of potentially exploitable water sources - including groundwater and surface water - together with feasibility of concurrent cogeneration of hydro electricity. Modelling of future source requirements based on alternative scenarios for population resettlement and industrial development.

Hauraki Dams Evaluation - Assessment of best options for the future of eight redundant water supply dams, taking account of on-going costs of retaining them – construction of fish passes, periodic de-silting, effects on stream hydrology, public safety – vs. costs for removal.

Whiritoa Water Supply Assessment - Assessment of the case for provision of a public, reticulated water supply to the community of Whiritoa, taking account of capital and operational costs and the potential risks to public health under the present arrangement.

Gisborne District Water Meters Study - Investigation of the benefits of introducing universal metering as part of a plan to improve efficiency of resource use and to extend the service life of a newly upgraded water supply system. Study included modelling of growth in demand.

Asset Management Plans - Prepared asset management plans for water supply for towns and communities in Waipa District.

Long Term Asset Planning - Prepared long-term infrastructure plans for water supply for the towns and communities of South Waikato District.

Community Water Supply Design - Assessment of needs and design of infrastructure for water supply to new developments in both remote areas and for extension of existing, municipal systems.
